Delta Pizza

Dear Friend,

Here is my story:

My late father, Giuseppe Ferranti, grew up in a restaurant, pastry and coffee shop business that was run by my grandparents in Sicily. He worked for famous restaurants in the Alps of Italy catering to celebrities and elite customers. He eventually made a career in government and became President of the Republican Party in Italy. On a part-time basis, my father helped his wife my mother, Maria, and I to run their own grocery store. Trying to get away from socialism, and the political instability in Italy at the time, and seeking the American Dream, we applied for a visa and immigrated to America in 1983.

We resided and worked in the kitchen of a New Jersey restaurant as my parents were cooks. I washed dishes as a young teenager there as well. Learning to speak English, knowing the laws, and adapting to our new country was our greatest challenge. In pursuit of the American Dream, and hoping to find business opportunities where some people spoke Italian, drove us to visit Baltimore, Maryland’s Little Italy. However, we got lost en route and ended up in Delta, Pennsylvania.

In Delta, an old building that was built in 1885, and known by the locals at the former Williams General Store, caught our attention as it was for rent. Used to cities, and noticing no Italian restaurants around, my family pioneered by renovating the building and opening Delta Pizza in 1984. I worked the phones and was the dishwasher. I also managed the business mechanics under my father’s leadership because I was the first to learn English. The business was a success from the beginning because we were the first to bring authentic Italian cuisine to the area.

We love America so much that we became American citizens in 1987. We truly lived the American Dream. Giuseppe Ferranti passed in 1999 after being so loving and giving to Delta Community. My mother retired, and now I solely run the business we started as a family in 1984.

Delta Pizza is now a proud recipient of many food awards, such as “Best Food” in 5 counties in Beverage and Food Magazine. DP received recognition in newspapers such as The Baltimore Sun and York Daily Record. Ironically, the York Daily Record calling it “Delta’s Little Italy!” How ironic!

The restaurant now offers DP Lounge and live entertainment. Famous musicians from as far off as Nashville find their way into Delta. The restaurant also offers billiards where World Champions have been guests. Guests such as Gold Medalist/actor Jeannette Lee (aka The Black Widow), World Champion “Quick Nick” of Canada, and Florian Kohler of France have visited. We have catered for Dale Earnhardt Jr. as well.

Delta Pizza has had excellent reviews and has garnered the attention of many television outlets such as Fox and ABC. Delta Pizza was praised on social media by Jamie Costello of WMAR-TV for its consistent community involvement. Finally, a Citation of Excellence has been presented to Delta Pizza by the Senate and Congress.

Delta Pizza is a grateful and proud member of the community. The region has been welcoming and supportive of our family and our business since 1983.
